Groundbreaking for MassWorks, Sam Park: Monday, August 6, 2012. Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki joined U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, state and local officials and developer Sam Park to break ground on the MassWorks Infrastructure Program-supported Route 119/I-495 Interchange Safety and Capacity Improvement Project, which will spur private development in Littleton. Littleton at the Crossroads: Rt. 2 @ I-495.  The Town of Littleton has launched an economic development planning initiative for the industrially-zoned land near the intersection of Routes 2 and I-495. A public forum was held on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Littleton Common: At Exit 31 on I-495 at Exit 31, at the junction of Routes 119, 110, and 2A. Littleton Common hosts the Littleton campus of IBM’s MassLab facility (its largest software development campus in North America, with 2,200 employees), and the 90-acre mixed use site now being developed by Sam Park & Company (which will create 400 more jobs).

495 MetroWest Development Compact. On March 29, 2012, the Patrick-Murray Administration announced the release of the 495/MetroWest Development Compact Regional Plan. The priority areas identified in this plan -- which includes Littleton Common-- are intended to guide and inform future land use decisions in the region. By providing a regional perspective on the 495/MetroWest Region, the Plan will help local, regional and state partners make decisions and investments that promote new growth which maximizes current resources in the region and to assure that continued growth will be sustainable over the long term.

    Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan. On January 8, 2008, the Board of Selectmen voted to approve a contract withthe Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) for a scope of services to undertake the economic development strategy and action plan exercise (with $25,000 funded by the 11/5/07 Town Meeting) and the expedited permitting process ($20,000 funded by a grant from the state's IPB).  

    IBM, Cisco approved as Priority Development Sites. The Commonwealth’s Interagency Permitting Board  has approved the Town of Littleton’s expedited permitting application under MGL C.43D and designated two Priority Development Sites (PDS) in Littleton: (1) 550 King Street (Map U8, Parcel 10-- the “IBM” site owned by National Development)  and (2) the Cisco Systems site on Great Road (Map R18, Parcel 1-2). The 11/5/07 Town Meeting had designated both properties as Priority Development Sites. See the expediting permitting procedures adopted by the Board of Selectmen on December 8, 2008.     43D Grant Funds approved. In votes taken on December 13, 2007 and February 13, 2008, the Interagency Permitting Board also approved $100,000 in grant funds for the Town's implementation of expedited permitting. $20,000 is being used to fund services from MAPC as the Town's expedited permitting/ planning consultant; $30,000 for 18 months of increased Town staffing; and $50,000 to undertake transportation analyses of the IBM and Cisco Sites.
