Information Systems Frequently Asked Questions

Where are all the agendas?

The agendas for each board or committee are posted on the respective pages and also on the Agendas and Minutes Page. You may also access the agendas or minutes from the calendar pages. As the content providers are trained and provided internet access, more agendas/minutes/meeting announcements will be posted in a timely manner. For now, agendas are posted as time permits.

Why are the agendas posted so close to the meeting day?

Some agendas, such as those for the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen are fluid and subject to change up to the last minute.  Rather than submit multiple revisions, I post the agendas when they are submitted to the Town Clerk; that usually happens 48 hours prior to the meeting. Other notices, such as those from the Conservation Commission, are available well in advance, and I post those on the same day I receive them.

Why isn't the site named www.Littleton.MA.US? or gov? or any other name ?

The domain www.Littleton.MA.US is owned by another entity already.  Since we can't control access to e-mail accounts on that site, it would leave us liable to misrepresentation, mischief or malice.  The .gov designation is currently reserved for Federal Government entities and isn't commonly available for municipalities. The standard convention for municipal sites is "town.littleton.ma.us", which is available and may be used in the future.  More information regarding domain naming conventions is available at: http://www.internic.com/

Why aren't you hosting the site locally instead of spending $20.95/month for outside hosting ?

Government sites of all types are frequently the target of denial of service attacks. With remote hosting, we protect the servers and computers used here at the town offices. In addition, the remote hosting service offers a number of ease of use features and administrative advantages. We also are provided an unlimited number of e-mail accounts, which will eventually allow all the employees in town their own "name@littletonma.org " address.
