October is for Breast Cancer awareness (and it strikes both men and women).  It is also the month for Bone and Joint Health.

Exercise helps to keep bone density, but maybe you think exercise is so boring!  Hate to lift, run, grunt, or spin?  Try dancing.  It raises your heart rate, increases blood flow to the brain, plus it improves cerebral activity through learning and memory. Shake your booty in a dance class offered locally such as through Littleton Park and Rec or Acton-Boxborough recreation.  Ballroom dance, square dance, hip-hop, tap dance, line dance, or try Zumba with Latin-inspired international music and dance steps.  Check a wider area for contra-dancing, tango, or western swing.  Wellness bonus:  a chance to meet new people and widen your social circle.

The grant from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts (www.cfncm.org) funds a one-year Wellness Coordinator position, which has been filled by Pamela Campbell, Occupational Therapist. Although the position is part-time, Pamela can be found most days on the second floor of the Townhouse and can be contacted at pcampbell@littletonma.org or at 978-540-2470 for more information.
