TA Blog: $4.2-million for Goldsmith Street

Below is the TA's report on the June 26, 2008 meeting of the Boston Region MPO Transportation Planning and Programming, which gave final approval for $4.2-million in federal/state funds for the reconstruction of Goldsmith Street.

I am pleased to report that, at its meeting this morning, the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)'s Transportation Planning and Programming Committee formally adopted amendments to the Federal Fiscal Year 2008 TIP (Transportation Improvement Plan) which includes $4.2-million for Goldsmith Street, Littleton. The Committee had given initial approval at its meeting on May 22, 2008, which then triggered a required 30-day public comment period. With today's action, that funding is officially in place.

The total project cost is $5.2-million, of which $1-million will be paid by the Town through the funds unanimously approved by the May 5, 2008 Special Town Meeting-- which launched the $8-million
roadway improvement plan adopted by the Board of Selectmen on March 10, 2008.

The project consists of improvements to Goldsmith Street from the intersection with Route 2A/110 to the intersection with Shaker Lane, a distance of approximately 1.45 miles. Sidewalk and landscaping improvements will also be provided.

The project would be bid by the Massachusetts Highway Department in September 2008, with a projected project start in the Spring of 2009

Congratulations again to all of us.
Onward with the roadway improvement plan!
Thanks, everyone!
Keith
