Upcoming Grade Crossing Closures Foster and King Streets, Littleton, MA - October 17, 2012
Over the next two weekends and through the Monday and Tuesday following each, Foster Street and then King Street in Littleton, MA will be closed to allow for the reconstruction of the Fitchburg Rail Line grade crossing at these locations.
The schedule for the October 20th through October 23rd Foster Street construction is as follows:
On October 20, 2012 at approximately 1am, MBCR will commence the reconstruction of the grade crossing at Foster St. At this time the crossing will be closed to vehicular traffic. Police details will be in place to mitigate any traffic issues.
MBCR will remove the existing main line track. This will allow LMH Construction access for the installation of an 80' X 30" water main, protective sleeve and necessary pipe under the location of the main lines. LMH will be working from 5 am on Saturday until completion sometime Saturday evening. At that time the work site will be secured.
Police details will be on site around the clock as the road will still be closed.
At 5am Sunday, MBCR forces will begin to install new track on the existing main line location and work will concentrate on restoring normal train service for Monday morning.
On Monday, MBCR will continue the crossing work installing the new track #1. MBCR will also be installing the necessary rail seal interface and prepare the site for paving on Tuesday.
Our schedule dictates and it is our expectation that the road will be open for vehicular traffic on Tuesday October 23rd in the afternoon/evening after the asphalt sets up.
Should there be any delays or problems we will open the road up on Wednesday am at the latest.
Again, MBTA and Local Police details will be on hand throughout construction, and the local police will be issuing a reverse 911 alert to advise residents and businesses in the area impacted by the closures. In addition, Variable message boards have been on site for weeks warning motoristst of these upcoming closures.
The scheduled closure for the King Street intersection Is expected to begin Saturday October 27th in the early am and continue through the afternoon of Wednesday the 31st. This crossing is more complex to build and will require an additional day to construct, final details are being coordinated at this time. Additional project updates and detailed information on the King Street intersection will follow shortly.
Please feel free to forward this information to persons or organizations who may be impacted by this work. We are also happy to add any persons or organizations interested to our distribution list to receive future project updates. We thank you for your patience and consideration as we work to improve the transportation infrastructure in the region.
