Crematory Study Committee

Report and Recommendations - UPDATED - The Crematory Study Committee reviewed its report and presentation with the Board of Selectmen on Monday, June 7, 2010. The Crematory Study Committee reported its recommendation (7 in favor, 2 opposed) that the Board of Selectmen move ahead with a limited feasibility study through a Request for Proposals (RFP) let by the Crematory Study Committee, the scope of which would include environmental, health, and financial information. The feasibility study would be followed by a non-binding referendum question. The Board of Selectmen voted on June 7, 2010 to instruct the Crematory Study Committee to prepare a draft scope of work for a feasibility study and report back to the Board of Selectmen. That meeting is now scheduled for Monday, August 2, 2010 at 7:30 PM.   

The Board of Selectmen voted on May 11, 2009 to establish a nine-member Crematory Study Committee to be comprised of three citizens at-large, and one representative each from the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Board of Health, Cemetery Commissioners, Finance Committee, and School Committee. The Committee's charge is to examine all public health, public safety, public works, operational, financial, and quality of life issues associated with locating a crematory within the Town of Littleton; and to submit a report with its findings and recommendations thereon to the Board of Selectmen.
