For Readers, Watchers and Listeners

New Materials List

For the latest books, DVDs, books on tape or CD and music CDs acquired by the library in the last 30 days go to the New Materials List.   Everything for all ages is listed there. You can click on a link to the MVLC catalog and request the item.  You need your library card and PIN as usual.

NextReads Newsletters

For ideas for new books you might enjoy reading subscribe to one or all of our NextReads newsletters.  You'll find new books, old favorites and buried treasures! No library card is necessary - just an e-mail address - for library Web site visitors and patrons to subscribe to any of the 20 different subject and genre newsletters. Newsletters arrive on a monthly or every  other month schedule. Subscribers can link directly to the library catalog from books of interest on the lists, and place a hold or request a title immediately. Even those without e-mail addresses can take advantage of the lists by viewing them online, either at the library or from any Internet access point. We post copies of the newsletters in the library as well.

Suggestions from the Pros

The library subscribes to three databases that help you find suggestions of what to read next.

In fact, one is titled What Do I Read Next?   You'll need your library card number to access all of these databases. For What Do I Read Next? enter your card number and on the next page scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on What Do I Read Next?

For NoveList  enter your library card number at the EBSCOhost site that comes up and then click on NoveList.

Readers Advisor Online  has a place for user name and password which you ignore.  You only need your library card number.

Each database works a little differently and has different information.  Use NoveList for children's materials and Readers Advisor Online for non-fiction.  Try all three and see which you like best for fiction.

Book Discussion Groups

There are vast resources for groups that want to discuss the books that they have read.  Here are some of them.
