Mission:
The mission of the Building Department is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard life or limb, health, and public welfare and the protection of property as it relates to these safeguards by regulating and controlling the design, construction, prefabrication, equipment or appliance installation, quality of materials, use, occupancy location and repair of all structures; through uniform building laws granting full justice to all building materials on a fair basis of true merits of each material; and to development on a sound economic basis for the future growth of our community through unbiased and equitable dealing with building construction.

BUILDING PERMIT FEE METHOD

EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011 THERE IS A 7% SURCHARGE ON ALL PERMIT FEES.

For the purposes of determining the Building Permit Fees, the estimated construction value will be computed as follows:

The Permit Fee = [the actual estimated value of work x the Permit Fee Multiplier] or [the building gross area x Type of construction Factor x Gross Area Modifier* x Permit Fee Multiplier]~ whichever is greater.

      • (a) Nine dollars ($9) per one thousand dollars ($1000) estimated Construction Cost.
    • Residential
      • (b) Six dollars ($6) per one thousand dollars ($1000) estimated Construction Cost for residential remodeling and additions.
  • (2) *Gross Area Modifier:
    • (a) 75 (Refer to 2000 International Building Code Building Permit Fee Calculation Data)
  • (3) Elevator:
    • (a) Twenty-seven thousand dollars ($27,000.) base
    • (b) Three thousand dollars ($3000.) per stop
  • (4) R-3 Garage:
    • (a) Type of Construction Factor = .22
  • (5) Basement:
    • (a) Unfinished Type of Construction Factor = .20
    • (b) Finished Type of Construction Factor = .40
  • (6) Decks
    • (a) Open - Type of Construction Factor = .13
    • (b) Covered - Type of Construction Factor = .16
  • (7) Signs
    • (a) Commercial: thirty dollars ($30) per sign
    • (b) Residential: twenty dollars ($20) per sign
  • (8) Wood Stoves: ten dollars ($10)
  • (9) Demolition: twenty dollars ($20)
  • (10) Moving of building: twenty dollars ($20)
  • (11) Change of use and occupancy: twenty-five ($25)
  • (12) Building permit minimum fee: thirty dollars ($30)
  • (13) Construction started without permit: double fee.
  • (14) Review of Request for Determination MGL 40A ยง6 p.4: Two hundred and fifty'dollars.
