George & Lucy Yapp Conservation Land

   
On June 29, 2009, the Town of Littleton became the proud owner of the 53.6-acre George and Lucy Yapp Conservation Land. The purchase for $930,000 was approved by the May 4, 2009 Special Town Meeting and partially funded by a grant of $500,000 from the Division of Conservation Services.

May 4, 2009 Special Town Meeting voters approved acquisition of the 53.61-acre Yapp Conservation Land for a total price of $930,000. This sume was met by a $500,000 grant from the Division of Conservation Services under its LAND (Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity) grant program, $150,000 in borrowing under the Community Preservation Act for conservation purposes, and $280,000 from Town fund balances for open space purchases ($33,000 from the Conservation Fund, $111,000 from the Oak Hill Cell Tower Fund, and $136,000 from the Newtown Hill Cell Tower Fund).

On June 1, 2009, the Board of Selectmen voted to name the property as "The George and Lucy Yapp Conservation Land" and approved an order of taking at the purchase price of $930,000.

On June 15, 2009, the Board of Selectmen approved the Land Use and Management Plan for the property as drafted and revised by the Sudbury Valley Trustees, to whom a conservation restriction was also granted, pursuant to the Town Meeting vote.
