Public Hearing Sets Transfer Station Fees

UPDATE: On August 13, 2018, the Board of Selectmen held a public hearing and voted, pursuant to Town Code Chapter 181, to establish the following fee structure for use of the Town of Littleton Transfer Station effective October 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019: Stickers: Full price $110.00; Senior $35.00; Second sticker $55.18; Pro-rated (Full) $53.18; Pro-rated (Senior) $15.45; Per Bag: 33 Gal $2.75; 15 Gal $1.75; 8.5 Gal $1.00; and, further, to establish a study committee to recommend fees to become effective July 1, 2019.

The Littleton Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Littleton Town Offices, Room 103, 37 Shattuck Street, Littleton, MA 01460 to amend the fee structure and regulations for the Town Transfer Station, effective October 1, 2018.  Information about potential fee options is posted at the Town’s website, Comments may be submitted in writing by noon on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 to the Board of Selectmen’s Office, 37 Shattuck Street, Littleton, MA 01460, or in person at the hearing. 

Information about potential fee options: The total cost of providing solid waste disposal services at the transfer station in FY 2018 was $368,457, while total revenues received from the current fee structure was only $332,936-- a shortfall of $35,521 covered by a General Fund subsidy.  For FY 2019, total transfer station costs are projected to increase to $426,644, while revenues would decrease to $323,030-- a projected shortfall of $103,614. The Board of Selectmen wishes to hear public input on how to address this shortfall, including by increasing the fee for stickers (currently: $110 full price, $35 for seniors) and /or for bags (currently: $2.25 for 33-gallon, $1.25 for 15-gallon, $0.75 for 8.5 gallons).  See additional information
