A Notary Public is an individual, appointed by state government, to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents.
If you would like to use the services of our Notaries, you must bring your document to the library at 35 Shattuck Street in Littleton, MA. To confirm that a Notary Public will be available when you visit the library, please call 978-540-2600.
You must be identified by the Notary Public through a satisfactory form of proper identification. This form of proper identification must not be expired. Proper forms of identification include:
- State ID or Driver’s License
- U.S. Passport
- U.S. Military Card
- Foreign Passport, validated by INS
If you do not have a means of proper identification (or if your identification is expired), the Notary cannot notarize your documents. All documents must be signed in front of the Notary. Documents cannot be notarized if it is not signed in the presence of the Notary. All signatories must be present with proper forms of ID. If your document requires a witness or witnesses, please be advised the Notary cannot act a witness and there may not be witnesses available. You may have to bring your own witness or witnesses with you.
No fees are charged for the services of the library Notary Public.
The Notary is not bilingual and will not notarize anything that is not in English.
Massachusetts prohibits non-attorney Notaries Public from performing real estate closings (MGL c. 222, § 17 (e)).
