Business Certificates
Pursuant to Chapter 110 of the M.G.L., The Town Clerk accepts filings of Business Certificates by any person, persons, or corporations conducting business in the Town of Littleton under a company name.
Generally, persons or corporations, individually or in partnership with one another, and doing business in the Town of Littleton under a company name must file this certificate. The certificate is valid for four years from the date of filing and is renewable every four years thereafter.

Step 1: Only Applicable if the Business is based out of your Home (Any Residential Address):
Approval from the Building Department is required for all businesses/home occupations looking to have a business at an address that is not commercially zoned. The exceptions/approvals are determined by application. The information you will need to provide helps to determine that the nature of your business does not result in excessive traffic, noise, or other problems incompatible with the residential character of the area. The response will be by email within one week. Once you receive your approval, please complete Steps 2 and 3

Step 2: Complete your Business Certificate Form:
- The Business Certificate form (PDF) must be notarized. If you come in person, the Clerk's Office will notarize it for you at no additional charge.
- If planning to pay the filing fee online, please email the completed and notarized form to: Town Clerk Office email.
Step 3: Payment of $30 for the filing fee.
- Online Payments can be made by Credit Card, Debit Card, or ACH. Payments by card are subject to a processing fee
- If paying by Check - Checks should be made payable to the Town of Littleton.
- Payments being made in person can be Cash, Check, Debit, or Charge Card. All card payments are subject to a processing fee.

For Business RENEWALS

Complete your Business Certificate form (PDF) and make the $30 payment.
- The process for completing the certificate and payment is the same as for new businesses listed above.
- Home Based Businesses do not need to get Building Department approval again if at the same address.
For Additional Certified Copies
One certified copy will be provided at registration or renewal.
- Additional Certified Copies are $5 each
- Please call 978-540-2403 or come by for additional certified copies
For FIREARMS Businesses (New and Renewals)
Follow the new business process outlined above on this page, AND additionally include a photocopy of:
- Your driver's license
- Your license to carry firearms
- A copy of your current lease with the property owner (no sub-leases permitted)
- The Business EIN (Tax ID Number ) designation letter
- Your Federal Firearms License (If you are still in the application process when registering your new business, provide the FFL once it is approved).
- For New Firearms Businesses: There is a waiting period (of up to 10 business days) before the business certificate can be issued, pending police and/or building/zoning approval.
